Kiwanis goes to the 2008 Mardi
Gras  This
Kiwanis Float paraded on Mardi Gras Day in Metairie, Louisiana in the
Krewe of Argus Parade. The riders are all members of local Kiwanis clubs
from the greater New Orleans Area.

Living Center Christmas Party 2007
This
party was a big hit. Everyone had a good time residents, Kiwanians,
Key Clubbers, and friends. Thanks to everyone who helped make this
event so successful. Can you guess who Santa is?

Jeanne Monte has been
awarded the Kenner North Kiwanis 2007 George Hixson Fellowship in
recognition of her 10 years of service to the club and the
community. She was cited for her work as newsletter editor, club
president, chair of the club's mentor program at the Jefferson
Community School and various other community service and club
projects.
Joel Phillips has been
presented the club's C. W. "Wimp" Hewgley "Kiwanian
of the Year" award for developing and chairing the club's
successful K-Kids Program in seven East Jefferson elementary
schools. The presentation was made by 2005 Kiwanian of the Year
Clarence Machado.
Mary North has been
presented the club's Walter Campbell "Rookie of the
Year" award. She was cited for her Community Service Work,
for chairing the club's annual Christmas party for residents at
the Chateau Living Center and for chairing the arrangements
committee for the awards dinner. The presentation was made by 2006
Rookie of the Year Betty Trosclair.

The presentations were made at the
club's 31 annual awards and installation dinner Sept. 22 at the Radisson
Hotel in Kenner.

Jim Perrier was
installed as 2007-08 president, succeeding Carroll Trosclair. Other
officers installed were president-elect Ira Snyder; vice president Anthony
Simmons; Treasurer Bill Lindsey and Secretary Doris Rappold.
Directors installed were Al Aparicio,
Bill Curl, Mike Lepper, Mick McIlwain, and Mary North. Carroll Trosclair
will serve as immediate past president.
Dr.
Diane Roussel, superintendent
of Jefferson Parish Schools, veteran School Board Member Gene Katsanis,
State Rep. Danny Martiny and Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon were
among recent speakers at Kenner North Kiwanis breakfast meetings at the
Radisson Hotel in Kenner.

Marius Martin, a
member of Kenner North Kiwanis since 1997, died in May. Marius, who was
79, was retired from the Pan American Life Insurance Co. but remained
active for years with the United Way. He and his wife Jacki were residents
of Kenner.

SPECIAL PERSONS PICNIC: Kenner
North Kiwanis and the Curtis Key Club entertained about 200 special kids
and special persons at an indoor picnic April 1. The picnic,
co-sponsored by the Williams Blvd. Baptist Church, was an annual event
until Hurricane Katrina forced cancellation in 2006. It was moved
indoors this year because of threatening weather. Kiwanian Fred Dumas
(right) chaired the event. See Picnic.

Olympics: !0
Kiwanians and 11 Curtis Key Club members helped conduct the East
Jefferson Special Olympics at
Muss Bertolino Stadium March 30. The clubs will also conduct the
shot-put event at the state Special Olympic games in Hammond May
19. See Special

Kiwanians worked on the Habitat for Humanity housing project in New
