OIL SPILL HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS” There is a large group of Faith Based & non-profit groups working in Louisiana everyday. After Katrina Lutheran Response brought in over 10,000 volunteers to help. They gutted more than 700 homes and worked case management for more than 2300 families. They ran 61 summer camps serving more than 3000 children. Volunteers worked more than 400,000 hour. (This was just one agency, there were many others also involved.) There are more than 800 people still living in FEMA trailers. Most are victims of contractor fraud. There is still much to do from Katrina, but most of the money has dried up. Now the BP Oil disaster is getting all of the attention we can’t forget about those who are still trying to recover from Katrina. The OIL SPILL has it’s own problems, mostly mental health problems. These problems will be much harder to identify and deal with.
50/50 Winner – Fay Dufour
