AED’s – Ira Snyder – A presentation was made to the Jefferson Parish School Board on Wednesday February 4th with a check to cover the cost of 2 AED’s that will be placed in local schools.

During a presentation ceremony at the February 4 meeting of the Jefferson Parish Public School Board meeting, Ira Snyder, President of the Kenner North Kiwanis explains to the Board why the club was donating two Automated External Defibrillators to the school system.  Pictured left to right, Martin Marino, School Board President, Betty Trosclair and Carolyn Curl, Board Members, Jim Perrier, KNK Past President, Ira Snyder, Anthony Simmons, KNK President Elect, and Gene Katsanis JPPSS Board member.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest just doesn’t affect adults, it affects about 7000 children each year including student athletes.  The bottom line is that with an AED, a life may be saved.  The Louisiana-Mississipi-West Tennessee Kiwanis District challenged its clubs to place an AED in each school in the District.  With the generosity of the sponsors of the Kenner North Kiwanis Club and the proceeds from the annual golf tournament we were able to purchase two AED’s and hope to purchase a third before the end of the year.  The AED’s will be placed in the athletic departments at East Jefferson and Bonnabel High Schools.

JPPSS Board Member Libby Moran pointed out that AED’s were used to save the lives of two individuals in the school system—one employee and one student and the entire Board thanked the Kiwanis for their support.

2008 "MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER WALK"

It was a great day. The sun was out. We all had our game faces on, taking on what is possibly one of the world’s greatest challenges. We were up for it though. Joining forces with what had to be thousands, along Lakeshore drive in New Orleans, the Key Club was well represented by the John Curtis and Crescent City Christian Key Clubs. Numbering 20 Key Clubbers strong we walked the good walk. As Angelique would say, “that went pretty quick for ten miles. In reality it was 5 km, 3.1 miles for you non-metrics. Many dollars were raised this day to fight a huge battle against an enemy whose welcome was worn out long ago.
